Adaptive Re-Use with Federal Tax Credits in Brunswick, Maine
Completed 2013+
“How we treat the past says a great deal of what we value” (unknown)
A great repeat client and a long neglected but elegant building in desperate need of a sensitive hand, the making of an ongoing exciting project. After more than a century of use as a multi-family residence the new owner began a thoughtful “re-purposing” of the structure. These elements combined to provide us with a challenging yet extremely rewarding project that has involved not only a myriad of Code and Regulatory bodies but the National Park Service and their oversight of projects utilizing the Federal Tax Credits for Historic Preservation.
From assisting with “change of use” and local zoning regulations , to life safety concerns including the integration of a complete sprinkler system within the historic fabric of the stately old structure, these elements along with the many aspects of providing barrier free access conforming to the latest ADA regulations have utilized nearly every aspect of our expertise. Throughout it all we have continued to enjoy an excellent relationship with the owner and his many
and varied tenants now occupying what is now considered
a “gem” that the Town is proud and excited to have back.
