This little school in the shadow of Bowdoin College was given new life through a series of additions and alterations. While done on a very limited budget as one of Maine’s “special project” as the State refers to a small project of this nature. provided new classroom space, and handicapped access to the aging school.

The architectural integrity of the Federal Period design was maintained while systems and the overall facility were upgraded. Done while a managing partner at another Portland architectural firm, Mr. Normand had direct design and oversight of the project.

A separate project, the design, fundraising and construction in a “community barn-raising” fashion was started here and became the first of 35 such playgrounds designed and constructed by Mr. Normand across three states.
